Water softeners use ion-charged media to remove hardness minerals from your water, resulting in softer, higher quality water for you and your family.
To keep your Water Depot water softener working at top performance, the media will automatically be cleaned using a brine solution of salt and water. The quality of the salt used in your brine tank is important to ensure your system works at its best, for many years to come. Salt comes in several varieties including pellet salt, rock salt and solar salt.
Pellet type salt is a mined salt that has been pressed and shaped into small pellets. To keep the integrity of the pellet shape, some manufacturers use binding agents and glues, which can adversely affect the Ion Exchange capabilities of your softening media over time, shorten the life of your Water Softener and cause bridging in your brine tank.
Rock salt is also mined and processed prior to packaging. As a result of this processing this grade of salt can contain various impurities that can clog your system and leave residue in your brine tank that can cause salt bridging.
Water Depot always recommends the use of Solar Salt with all our water softener systems, for enhanced performance and efficiency. These high-quality salts are up to 99.6% pure. Evaporated naturally by the sun and wind, these solar crystals have a white opaque appearance and a low insoluble content. They are formulated to resist mushing and bridging, minimizing the accumulation of brine tank residue.
Solar Salt is available at every Water Depot location across Ontario.
