Reverse Osmosis System Maintenance

A Reverse Osmosis system use a series of filters and a reverse osmosis membrane to purify water by reducing harmful chemicals and other contaminants, providing your family with clean, fresh drinking water. The purified water is conveniently stored in a sealed tank for whenever your family needs it.

Reverse Osmosis system are available in a variety of filtration levels and storage tank sizes, depending on the water demands of your family.

What are the Benefits of an RO System?

Most Reverse Osmosis systems are used as a point-of-use drinking water system and come with their own dedicated faucet. For larger properties, RO systems can be used at the point-of-entry, providing the whole home with purified water.

An RO system can be used in both rural and municipal applications provided the feed water is properly disinfected and free of harmful bacteria including but not limited to the following:

  • Cryptosporidium
  • Giardia
  • Salmonella
  • coli, and more.

Reverse Osmosis systems are effective at reducing chemical and metal contaminants, including:

  • Lead
  • Sodium
  • Chloride
  • Copper
  • Chromium
  • Arsenic
  • Fluoride
  • Radium
  • Sulphate
  • Calcium
  • Magnesium
  • Potassium
  • Nitrate
  • Phosphorous

Maintenance

An RO system’s effectiveness at providing purified water is dependent on filters and membranes being replaced on schedule, as part of an effective preventative maintenance program. The system and storage tank should be sanitized periodically to remove any bacteria that could lead to unpleasant tastes and odours.

If the water coming from your RO has developed a bad taste or odour, it could be caused by infrequent use, expired filters, or worn-out membranes. These depleted components will need to be replaced on a regular schedule.

If you notice that the water from your RO tap is flowing slower than usual it could be that the water pressure in the storage tank is not set properly or the storage tank needs to be replaced.

Water Depot offers preventative maintenance packages for all the RO systems we sell. A trained technician will come to your home to replace all filters annually and membrane when required, to ensure your system is always performing at its peak. If you prefer to change the components yourself, Water Depot sells filters for all our RO systems.
